TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A continental cold air mass brought cooler temperatures across Taiwan on Tuesday morning (Feb. 3), with a new cold front expected Friday (Feb. 6) evening, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). The current cold spell is expected to weaken during the day, allowing temperatures to rise slightly. Intermittent rain showers are likely in the northeast and eastern regions, particularly along the north coast of Keelung, in southeastern areas, on the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula, and in the mountainous regions of Greater Taipei.
CWA reported that central and northern mountainous regions may also experience brief rain showers on Tuesday morning, while other areas will remain mostly cloudy to sunny. Most regions will see partly cloudy to sunny skies from Wednesday to Friday (Feb. 4-6), but significant temperature differences between day and night are expected in central and southern Taiwan. Only the eastern half and the Hengchun Peninsula will have isolated rain showers during this period.
CWA noted that the new cold front arriving on Friday evening will bring another wave of cold air from the continent, leading to noticeably colder weather in central, northern, northeastern, and eastern regions. Brief rain showers will occur along the north coast of Keelung, north of Taoyuan, and in the northeast. Isolated showers are possible in Hsinchu, Miaoli, eastern and southeastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
CWA added that the cold air will persist until Monday (Feb. 9) morning, impacting northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan with cooler conditions. The rest of Taiwan is also expected to experience chillier mornings and evenings during this period. As the cold mass weakens, temperatures will rise slightly, with most areas remaining partly cloudy to sunny, except for isolated showers in the eastern half and Hengchun Peninsula. ◼
