TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) opened Tuesday (Feb. 3) and runs through Sunday (Feb. 8), bringing books and publishers from dozens of countries to the Taipei World Trade Center. The Swedish Trade and Invest Council presents Swedish books for children and young adults at the exhibition. Organizers aim to attract young readers and introduce Swedish literature to Taiwanese audiences through various events throughout the week.
The Swedish booth celebrated the 80th anniversary of Pippi Longstocking at last year's exhibition, introducing the classic character to Taiwanese readers. This year, organizers host a Children's Salon on Thursday (Feb. 5) from 1-2 p.m. to discuss Swedish stories reaching Taiwan. Writer and translator Wenfen Chen Malmqvist and children's literature researcher Dr. Huilin Chou will discuss translating Swedish children's literature. The speakers will also address current publishing trends in children's books.
The Swedish Trade and Invest Council hosts a Swedish Fika at their booth on Friday (Feb. 6) from 3-4 p.m. at stand A1222. Fika is a Swedish tradition of taking a coffee break, often including sweet snacks such as cinnamon buns, or "kanelbulle." The tradition offers an opportunity to relax, recharge, and socialize with others. Visitors can experience this cultural tradition firsthand at the exhibition.
TIBE is an annual event for publishing professionals and readers interested in international literature from around the world. Thailand serves as the guest of honor this year, hosting events throughout the week and introducing at least 18 Thai writers to Taiwanese audiences. Over 500 stands from 29 countries showcase works at TIBE, which has run for 34 years. ◼
