TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold snap will hit Taiwan beginning Friday (Feb. 6), the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced, with temperatures dropping significantly through the weekend. A front will bring brief rain to the north, northeast, and east, with scattered showers expected in the southeast, Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula, and central-southern mountainous regions. Other areas may see isolated showers throughout the day.
The CWA reported that a cold wave will push south on Saturday (Feb. 7), causing temperatures to drop significantly in central and northern Taiwan, the northeast, and the east. Brief rain is expected to persist in the north and northeast, while the east, southeast, Hengchun Peninsula, and central-southern mountainous regions will experience localized showers.
The CWA revealed that a cold wave will intensify from Sunday (Feb. 8) to Monday (Feb. 9) morning, bringing extremely cold weather to the island. Temperatures will slightly rebound by Monday (Feb. 9) afternoon, but conditions will stay chilly. Most regions are expected to see partly cloudy to sunny skies, with only the eastern half and Hengchun Peninsula experiencing isolated showers.
Brief rain may also affect areas north of Taoyuan (桃園) and western mountainous regions on Sunday (Feb. 8). The CWA noted that by Tuesday (Feb. 10), temperatures will rise, though mornings and evenings will remain cold, particularly in central and southern Taiwan. The temperature difference between day and night will be pronounced in these regions.
