TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lin Jui-chieh (林睿杰), a freshman at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (台灣科技大學), achieved a significant milestone in 2025 by securing fourth place at the international humanoid robot competition, Robo-One, in Japan. Misumi Group Inc. awarded him the "Misumi Special Prize," recognizing the completeness of his engineering design and the industrial application potential of his work.

The university highlighted Lin's journey into humanoid robot research, which began in middle school. Over the years, he developed engineering skills in mechanical design, component selection, and system integration, showcasing an industry-oriented engineering mindset. Lin emphasized his focus on competition, practicality, and performance optimization, aligning his work with industry needs.

Lin collaborates with private educational institutions to offer courses on humanoid robot software and hardware integration. These courses combine the university's resources with Lin's practical experience, aiming to nurture foundational talent in humanoid robotics. Lin expressed gratitude to his mentor, Tsai Sheng-en (蔡昇恩), for guiding him through his six-year journey from a novice to a mentor.

Reflecting on his experiences, Lin said, "The journey from rookie to senior to teacher was far from smooth sailing, filled with countless bottlenecks and setbacks. It wasn't until the competitive days that I realised my greatest rival was myself." He noted that maintaining composure under pressure often outweighs technical skills. As a teacher, Lin finds joy in watching students grow and shine on stage, a fulfillment that surpasses his own achievements.
