TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A shift in weather patterns will bring Taiwan its first burst of spring rain beginning on Thursday (Feb. 26), according to meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩). He noted that the European EC-AIFS model predicts this rain will feature three key characteristics: extended duration, increased moisture, and intermittent showers.
A weakening northeast monsoon will cause temperatures to rise in northern Taiwan and Yilan on Thursday. However, as a front approaches, expect scattered showers in areas north of Taoyuan, eastern regions, northern mountain areas, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
The weather will take a cooler turn on Friday (Feb. 27) when the front passes and the northeast monsoon strengthens again. This change will bring a high probability of rain across the island, with brief showers likely in central and northern regions, eastern areas, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).
Saturday (Feb. 28) will see the cloud and rain zone from South China moving eastward, further impacting Taiwan's weather. Temperatures will drop in northern Taiwan and Yilan, while other regions will experience cooler mornings and evenings. The southern mountainous areas may also encounter localized, brief showers.
