TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A snow avalanche trapped a Taiwanese man on Kamifurano-dake in Hokkaido, Japan, on Thursday (March 5). According to TBS Television, local police and fire officials reported that the avalanche engulfed the man around 10:40 a.m. The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters, with the avalanche stretching 300 meters long and 200 meters wide.
Rescue teams arrived after 1:30 p.m., and his companions successfully extracted him. The man, in his 40s, remained unconscious, prompting police to airlift him to a hospital for treatment. The Kamifurano Town Office confirmed that the man was part of a group of 15 Taiwanese climbers.
Sapporo Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (札幌電視台) highlighted the ongoing investigation by local police to determine if others were affected by the avalanche. The situation underscores the unpredictable nature of mountain conditions and the importance of safety measures during such expeditions.
