TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU, 國立台灣師範大學) announced on Friday (March 5) that they have taken the lead among Taiwan's national universities by increasing its proportion of international degree students to 13.39% for the 114th academic year. NTNU's strategic focus on internationalization contributed to its top position for the second consecutive year.

According to data from the Ministry of Education (教育部), other universities, including National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST, 國立台灣科技大學), National Tsing Hua University (NTHU, 國立清華大學), National Taiwan University (NTU, 國立台灣大學), and National Chengchi University (NCCU, 國立政治大學), have international student ratios ranging from 9% to 12%. However, NTU leads in sheer numbers with 3,513 international students, surpassing NTNU's 1,942.

NTNU attributed its success to a stable recruitment mechanism centered around its Mandarin Training Center (國語教學中心) and Academy of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Compatriot Students (僑生先修部). The university expanded its global cooperation network, participating in international education fairs and digital recruitment platforms. Collaborations with institutions like Can Tho University (越南肯特大學) under the "Leaping Lion Project" (躍獅計畫) furthered its international education efforts.

The university now offers 62 master's and doctoral programs and six bachelor's programs taught entirely in English, creating an attractive learning environment. This has been a significant factor in the growth of international student applications. NTNU's international students hail from 73 countries, providing a more diverse and culturally rich campus compared to other universities with concentrated international student sources.
