TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front sweeps across Taiwan, bringing temperatures near 10 degrees Celsius (50°F) early Thursday (March 12) to northern and central regions. Radiative cooling affects areas from Taichung northward, including Changhua, Nantou, Chiayi, and Kinmen. Strong winds are expected across New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and regions as far south as Taitung and Penghu.

The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, predicts clear to partly cloudy skies, with increased cloud cover in northern and northeastern regions as the front passes through. Mountainous and coastal areas may see brief, isolated showers throughout the period as moisture fluctuates. Temperatures will likely drop below 10 degrees Celsius (50°F) Thursday (March 12) in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Kinmen County.

The cold front will continue affecting Taiwan's weather on Friday (March 13), with windward areas experiencing reduced cloud cover and daytime highs of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius (60.8°F to 64.4°F) in the north and northeast. The cold front will weaken by Saturday (March 14), allowing temperatures to rise to around 23 degrees Celsius (73.4°F). Central and southern areas will reach up to 25 degrees Celsius (77°F) as conditions moderate.

Sunday (March 15) brings a shift to an easterly high-pressure environment, raising temperatures to 25 degrees Celsius (77°F) in the north and 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75.2°F to 82.4°F) in the south. Radiative cooling will continue causing noticeable temperature drops at night and early morning despite the warming trend. WeatherRisk, a private forecasting service, suggests limited moisture until next Wednesday (March 18), with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies prevailing, except for brief showers along the north coast and eastern regions. ◼
