TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) forecasted that a strong cold air mass from the north will descend upon Taiwan on Thursday (March 12). This dry cold front, expected to persist for a week, will bring clear and dry weather, with only occasional light rain in one area.

Wu noted that Taiwan experienced cloud-free skies this morning, with scattered clouds over the eastern sea, but no rainfall. The lowest temperature of 9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Hsinchu's Guanxi Township (關西鎮) by 5:12 a.m. on Thursday. Wu predicted a further drop to 8 degrees Celsius tonight, with the cold air potentially reaching the "strong continental cold air mass" level.

Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) also reported a significant temperature drop in northern Taiwan, with the coldest period expected Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday (March 13). Lin emphasized the increased day-night temperature variation, particularly in central and southern Taiwan, with brief showers in the Hualien and Taitung areas.

Meteorologist Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) highlighted that the strongest cold advection will occur between Thursday and early Friday, with temperatures in urban areas of central and northern Taiwan dropping to 10 degrees Celsius. Open areas may experience temperatures as low as 7 to 9 degrees Celsius. He noted that a shortwave trough is passing overhead, enhancing the cold air advection.

This weekend, the high-pressure ridge will shift eastward, gradually increasing temperatures from Saturday (March 14). Wu Sheng-yu advised continued caution regarding radiation cooling effects and the significant day-night temperature differences. Next week, a new front is anticipated to arrive by March 19, potentially altering the current weather pattern.
