TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The combined water storage at Liyutan Reservoir (鯉魚潭水庫) and Deji Reservoir (德基水庫) as of 7 a.m. on Thursday (March 12) was at approximately 170 million cubic meters. The Water Resources Agency's Central Region Resources Branch (經濟部水利署中區水資源分署) in Taichung stated that they will closely monitor the water levels in the region's reservoirs amid the ongoing dry season, assuring that the overall water situation remains manageable.
Deji Reservoir currently holds 128.1 million cubic meters of water, maintaining a storage rate of 69.5%. Meanwhile, Liyutan Reservoir's storage level is at 43.78 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of 37.8%. The branch confirmed that these reservoirs, along with Shigang Dam (石岡壩), continue to supply both agricultural and public water needs without disruption.
Despite the dry season causing a natural decline in reservoir levels across Taiwan, the Water Resources Agency remains confident in its ability to manage the situation. They stated that water conditions are still under control and remain within a manageable range, emphasizing the importance of water conservation. The agency plans to enhance artificial rainmaking operations and implement various water-saving measures to extend reservoir supply periods.
The Central Region Resources branch is committed to adapting its strategies to prevailing climate conditions. Through increased rainmaking efforts and strategic water management, they aim to ensure a stable water supply throughout the dry season. Residents are encouraged to conserve water as authorities work to navigate the challenges posed by reduced rainfall.
