TAIPEI (TVBS News) — ART TAINAN 2026 (台南藝術博覽會) launched its opening press conference on Thursday (March 12) at Silks Place Tainan. The event, now in its 14th year, will run for three days starting Friday (March 13). Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) emphasized the fair's role in nurturing young artists, aligning with the Next Art Tainan award (台南新藝獎).
Mayor Huang noted that many young artists begin with the Next Art Tainan award, gradually participating in national exhibitions and competitions, before eventually stepping onto the ART TAINAN stage. He highlighted the ongoing support system that helps emerging artists gain recognition in the art world. This year, three award winners will showcase their work at the fair, demonstrating Tainan's success in cultivating new artistic talent.
The Tainan City Government also announced that the fair's theme, "Archipelagic Thinking" (群島思維), coincides with Tainan Canal's 100th anniversary, symbolizing the city's historical connection with maritime culture. This year's exhibition gathers both domestic and international galleries, including six from South Korea and Japan. Through these cross-ocean artistic creations, Tainan aims to become a vital platform for artistic dialogue.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Tainan National University of the Arts (國立台南藝術大學) presents the special exhibition "South/Scape" (南藝・南域). The exhibition marks its first collaboration with the art industry at ART TAINAN, showcasing the creative energy from a southern cultural perspective and highlighting the university's commitment to integrating academic art with broader industry trends.
