TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) predicted that a cold snap will hit Taiwan on Friday (March 13), with temperatures dropping to as low as 12 degrees Celsius in the central and northern regions. The CWA warned that some areas could experience even lower temperatures, advising residents to bundle up, especially during nighttime and early morning activities.

Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted that a continental high-pressure system will dominate from Saturday (March 14) to Sunday (March 15), causing temperatures to rise gradually. He cautioned that some low-lying areas might see temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius. From Monday (March 16) to Thursday (March 19), high pressure will shift eastward, bringing clear skies across Taiwan.

WeatherRisk meteorologist Hsueh Hao-tien (薛皓天) highlighted that a mid-to-upper-level trough will remain over the northeastern waters of Taiwan on Friday, resulting in mostly cloudy conditions in the north and northeast. The rest of the island will experience sunny to partly cloudy weather. He predicted that the trough will move away on Saturday, allowing a high-pressure ridge to dominate from the coast of China to the Taiwan Strait.

Despite weakening cold air, Hsueh forecasted that radiation cooling will contribute to noticeable low temperatures in the early hours. As the high-pressure ridge centers over Taiwan on Sunday, cloud cover will increase in the windward northeast and eastern regions, but temperatures will rise slightly.
