TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Wuling Farm (武陵農場), a popular mountain resort in Taichung City, transformed into a frozen wonderland Friday (March 13) after temperatures plummeted to minus 0.6 degrees Celsius (30.9°F). Farm operators activated a sprinkler system at 2 a.m. to protect the irrigation system from freezing, creating a stunning crystal palace effect as water droplets froze in the frigid air.
Farm staff discovered the frozen landscape during their rounds, exclaiming, "Breathtaking!" The wisteria garden's sudden transformation into a glistening crystal palace left them in awe. Visitors compared the ice-encased wisteria buds and small purple flowers to nature's version of "flower amber" and described them as mountain-exclusive "Tanghulu", a traditional Chinese candied fruit snack coated in hardened sugar syrup.
The frozen spectacle will gradually melt as the sun rises and temperatures climb. Wuling Farm advises visitors to stay warm and monitor temperature changes. As the cherry blossom season nears its end, the ice-encrusted weeping cherry branches, buds, and sakura petals delighted tourists on Friday. The farm urged visitors to dress warmly and stay informed about mountain road conditions for safe flower viewing and photography in freezing conditions. ◼
