TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasted stable and sunny weather across Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 17-18), but with significant temperature differences between day and night. CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) noted that a front will approach on Thursday (March 19), bringing brief showers to the north, east, and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), with possible afternoon mountain showers.
The front will pass on Friday (March 20), slightly strengthening the northeast monsoon. This will cause temperatures to drop slightly in the north and northeast, with localized showers expected from Taoyuan northward, in the east, and on the Hengchun Peninsula. The northeast monsoon will further cool the north and northeast by Saturday (March 21), while other regions will experience cool mornings and evenings, with scattered brief rain along Keelung's north coast, in the east, and on the Hengchun Peninsula.
Sunday (March 22) will see the northeast monsoon weaken, slightly warming the north and northeast, though mornings and evenings will remain cool. The Greater Taipei area, east, and Hengchun Peninsula will have brief localized showers, while other regions will be partly cloudy to sunny. Lin advised caution due to fog or low clouds affecting visibility from Tuesday morning in northern Tainan and northern Taiwan on Wednesday morning, as well as Kinmen and Matsu on Wednesday and Thursday.
The CWA highlighted the arrival of the vernal equinox on Friday, marking equal day and night lengths globally, with increasing warmth in the Northern Hemisphere. WeatherRisk (天氣風險) predicted that the stable weather pattern from Tuesday to Wednesday will persist, with easterly to southeasterly winds prevailing. However, atmospheric changes on Thursday and Friday may bring increased cloud cover and brief showers to northern and northeastern Taiwan, necessitating rain gear for outings.
