TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a weather advisory Monday (March 23) as a strengthening northeast monsoon brings rain to northern coastal areas and the Yilan-Hualien region. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said a weak front hovering over Taiwan's northern seas will trigger sporadic showers in eastern regions, while central and southern areas remain mostly sunny and stable throughout the day.
Scattered rain will continue along the northern coast and eastern regions Tuesday (March 24), with partly cloudy to sunny conditions prevailing elsewhere across the island. The weak front passes Wednesday (March 25), bringing a slight strengthening of the northeast monsoon and causing temperatures to drop in northern and northeastern Taiwan. Cloud cover will increase, and daytime highs will fall.
Cooler conditions arrive Thursday (March 26) as the northeast monsoon intensifies over northern and northeastern Taiwan, with brief showers expected in Yilan-Hualien while other areas remain partly cloudy to sunny. Temperatures rebound Friday (March 27) as the monsoon weakens, though eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), located at Taiwan's southern tip, may experience isolated showers.
A second weak front passes Saturday (March 28), again strengthening the northeast monsoon and bringing cooler temperatures to the north and northeast with increased rainfall chances in Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and eastern regions. Wu Der-rong forecasts Sunday (March 29) and the following Monday (March 30) will bring sunny, "summer-like" conditions across most of Taiwan, though eastern areas may experience occasional short showers.
