TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A northeast monsoon arriving Wednesday (March 25) through Thursday (March 26) will drop temperatures in northern Taiwan to 22 to 23 degrees Celsius (71.6 to 73.4°F), with cold air pushing lows to 17 to 18 degrees Celsius (62.6 to 64.4°F) by Sunday (March 29). WeatherRisk (天氣風險) analyst Liao Yu-ting (廖于霆) advised the public to conserve water as rainfall eases Tuesday (March 24) when the current weather front recedes, noting significant day-night temperature differences in central and southern regions.

Tuesday (March 24) will bring mostly cloudy to clear skies across Taiwan, with brief isolated showers limited to Keelung's north coast, the northeast, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) in Taiwan's southern tip. The east, southeast, and southern mountainous areas will see sporadic afternoon rain, while a weak front passing Wednesday (March 25) will slightly lower temperatures in the north and northeast before the monsoon arrives Thursday (March 26).

The northeast monsoon will weaken Friday (March 27), allowing northern and northeastern temperatures to rise, though the east and Hengchun Peninsula may still see brief showers. Another front will pass Saturday (March 28), bringing localized rain before cold air further influences the north by Sunday (March 29). Sunday's cold snap will drop low temperatures to 17 to 18 degrees Celsius (62.6 to 64.4°F), with highs reaching only 20 to 22 degrees Celsius (68 to 71.6°F).

Central and southern Taiwan will see relatively stable weather this week, with mostly cloudy to clear skies and high temperatures reaching 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (82.4 to 86°F), though southern mountainous areas may experience brief afternoon showers. From Monday (March 23) to Wednesday (March 25), Matsu (馬祖) and Kinmen (金門), Taiwan's outlying islands near China, along with the north and areas from Yunlin to Tainan, may experience local fog or low clouds affecting visibility in early morning and at night. ◼
