TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists predict a wet week in Taiwan as a series of weather fronts approaches the island. A front will arrive Tuesday (March 31), increasing cloud cover in northern and northeastern regions, according to Weather Risk, a private forecasting service. These areas may experience brief showers or thunderstorms, while other regions will see partly cloudy to clear skies with isolated afternoon showers in mountainous areas.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasts that after the front passes Wednesday, the northeast monsoon will strengthen slightly. This will bring brief showers or thunderstorms to areas from central Taiwan northward and the northeast, with potentially heavy rainfall from early morning to noon in northern regions. As the northeast monsoon weakens Thursday, the weather will shift to an easterly wind pattern, with moisture levels remaining high.
As the Qingming Festival (清明節) holiday begins Friday, Weather Risk anticipates a new front approaching, resulting in increased cloud cover and occasional rain in the north. Qingming Festival is a traditional holiday when Taiwanese families visit ancestral graves. The CWA warns that the front's influence will persist over the weekend, with showers or thunderstorms expected in the north and northeast Sunday, along with a chance of localized heavy rain.
Another front will approach next Monday (April 6), bringing brief showers or thunderstorms to northern and central Taiwan, while other regions will experience isolated showers. The CWA advises residents to prepare for fluctuating weather conditions throughout the week. Although rainfall will decrease at times, moisture levels will remain high, leading to isolated showers in western areas and increased afternoon rain in mountainous regions, forecasters said. ◼
