TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weather front and strengthened northeast monsoon is bringing sporadic showers and thunderstorms to northern and northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday (April 7). Meteorologist Lin De-En (林得恩) said the spring rain, expected to last less than a day, will primarily affect the western and north-central regions. He urged caution during outdoor activities due to potential heavy rain, lightning, and strong gusts.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported that temperatures will slightly drop in northern Taiwan after the front passes, with highs between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius (72 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit) in areas north of Hsinchu and Yilan. Outlying islands, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, will experience cloudy skies with brief showers or thunderstorms. The CWA warned that low clouds or fog might reduce visibility in Kinmen and Matsu from early morning to noon.

The weather page TyTech Taiwan | Weather Express (台灣颱風論壇|天氣特急) advised vigilance in northern Taiwan for sudden downpours, lightning, and strong winds. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted that the front would weaken by Wednesday, leading to reduced rainfall and warmer temperatures. He highlighted the risk of severe convection, including lightning and strong winds, from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning in the north-central region, with occasional brief rain in the south.

Wu also mentioned that from Thursday to April 14, a strong southern air mass will bring stable, summer-like heat to Taiwan, emphasizing the importance of sun protection and hydration. Although a tropical disturbance is developing southeast of Guam, Wu assured that it poses no immediate threat to Taiwan. ◼
