TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Rain settled over Taiwan on Tuesday (May 5) as temperatures dropped. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced that rain will expand nationwide, with a higher chance of heavy rain in northern and central mountainous areas. Northern and eastern regions are expected to reach 22 to 23 degrees Celsius (72 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit).

WeatherRisk (天氣風險) meteorologists said the northeast monsoon and a cloud and rain belt from southern China will bring cloudy skies and showers or thunderstorms across Taiwan. Southern regions may see brief sunshine, but the weather will remain unstable. Cooler air from the north, combined with cloud cover and localized rain, will cause temperatures to drop.

As the northeast monsoon weakens from Wednesday to Thursday, Taiwan will experience a shift to a high-pressure system, bringing southeasterly to southerly winds. This change will stabilize conditions across the island, though the eastern regions and mountainous areas may experience some rainfall. Another weather front is expected to arrive Friday to Saturday with chances of showers or thunderstorms.

The CWA said that forecasts may change and urged the public to stay updated with the latest weather information. Current data suggested that a tropical disturbance is developing in the southern ocean this week. ◼
