TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces unsettled weather conditions through the weekend as alternating fronts bring rain and temperature swings, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) said Thursday (May 7). Mostly cloudy to clear skies are expected across Taiwan and its outlying islands, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. The eastern regions, Greater Taipei, and mountainous areas may experience brief afternoon showers.

Weather forecasting company WeatherRisk (天氣風險) predicted a significant temperature rise Thursday, with highs of 28 to 32°C (82 to 90°F) and lows of 22 to 25°C (72 to 77°F). Unstable conditions are expected from Friday through Sunday as a new front passes and the northeast monsoon strengthens. Brief localized showers may occur in the afternoon across higher elevations and the east coast.

Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said the new front could cause a sudden temperature drop, leading to an unstable weekend. The front's second wave will impact central Taiwan and areas northward as well as southern mountainous regions from Friday through Saturday. Localized showers or thunderstorms are possible during this period, he added.

Wu anticipated an improvement in weather conditions starting Sunday as the front weakens and moves away. Temperatures will rise again, though scattered afternoon showers may persist in some areas. The CWA advised residents to carry umbrellas and monitor local forecasts through the weekend. ◼
