TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As housing prices continue to increase and the weather changes with the seasons, laundromats are getting a second wind in Taiwan.

These new compound laundromats have seen many upgrades, including screens to select your options and a pickup time for your clothes. The new laundromats also provide new payment methods, so coins are no longer necessary.

A staff worker at a laundromat remarked that they see most customers during the changing of season or on rainy days. As demand increases, system upgrades are also needed.

Huang Chia-feng is the entrepreneur behind these contemporary laundromats. In addition to incorporating new disinfecting methods, the laundromats offer services such as clothes folding to customers. There is even a coffee shop within.

But what gave Huang the idea to establish this business and how does he choose the locations for his laundromats?

"Nowadays, people are getting lazier so we have grasped this opportunity," Huang said. "I chose this place because it often rains. Another thing is the high residential population density."

He added that as apartments nowadays are getting more expensive and smaller, many don't have enough room on their balconies to wash or hang their laundry.

Following the pandemic and the continuous rise of real estate prices, Taiwanese people are looking for easier ways to get their laundry done, creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs along the way.
