TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's independent presidential candidate, Terry Gou, has made his move ahead of the impending 2024 presidential race, proposing the notion of a "two-round voting system" on Tuesday evening (Oct. 17).

In a Facebook post, the Foxconn founder expressed the need for constitutional reform in the existing system, criticizing the divide of power and responsibility between the president and the Premier.

He advocates for reform to a 'double-leadership' structure, aligning both power and responsibility with the position of president.

Under Gou's proposed reform, the presidential election would instead rely on an absolute majority obtained through two voting rounds.

He suggests that interested candidates can participate in the first round, paving the way for the top two to progress to the second and final round.

Meanwhile, as a collaboration between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) remains in the air, Gou has a higher chance of getting into talks with the TPP.

Seizing the opportunity, Gou is already preparing two strategic plans for discussion with TPP candidate Ko Wen-je.

He remarked that for collaboration between parties to work, both sides should first communicate their ideologies before examining potential partnerships and always keep in mind the goal of serving the people's interests.

Gou expressed hopes to meet public expectations through practical actions.
