TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Main figures of the heated election race, including Kuomingtang (KMT) Chair Eric Chu, KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je met in secret on Tuesday (Oct. 31) for a heated discussion on presidential and vice presidential candidacies; yet, no consensus was reached.

In celebration of the Renunciation Day for Guanyin Bodhisattva, a goddess of mercy honored in East Asian religions, a memorial event was held at the Shilin Hulu Temple on Thursday. KMT candidate Hou, TPP candidate Ko, independent candidate Terry Gou, and Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an joined the local celebration.

When asked whether a final decision was made considering that negotiations for a KMT-TPP joint ticket are set for tomorrow, KMT candidate Hou responded that negotiation is underway. There is no point returning to square one, he added.

Hou continued to explain that the two parties should aim to explore new options in tackling such issues, stressing the importance of adopting an awareness not to disappoint the public's expectations.

Hou, who has been in public service for 43 years, said he remains poignantly firm in his dedication to protecting Taiwan and uniting forces nationwide. It has been Hou's lifetime mission, for which he will continue to move, with steadfast strength, towards a future where Taiwanese people can all lead a happy and assuring life.
