TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih emphasized on Thursday (Nov. 2) that "no matter who becomes president, they must act in Taiwan's best interest" while visiting the Shihlin Hulu Temple in the Taipei area.

The event also saw the participation of independent presidential candidate Terry Gou and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential nominee Ko Wen-je.

Hou highlighted his 43-year career in the police force, during which he has consistently defended the Republic of China and all citizens of Taiwan.

Hou expressed his desire to ensure that Taiwan remains free from fear, something he sees as his responsibility as a presidential candidate.

"Regardless of who is president or whatever position they hold, everyone must act in Taiwan's best interests," Hou said. Following his speech, he initiated contact with Gou and Ko, extending handshakes to break the ice.

In his speech, Gou emphasized the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait. He stressed that his goal is not political stature but facilitating Taiwan's economic prosperity.

Lastly, Ko thanked Gou for his assistance during his tenure as mayor. He mentioned that he had visited the temple in the past and had returned this time to pray for national peace.
