TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) confirmed on Monday (Nov. 6) that 26 state-run hospitals will raise salaries by 4% starting in Jan. 2024, topping out at an increase of NT$2,500 per month.

Yang Nan-ping, deputy executive director of the ministry's Hospital and Social Welfare Organizations Administration Commission, disclosed that over 8,000 individuals would benefit from this raise, leading to an annual increase in expenditure of at least NT$140 million.

Yang pointed out that between Mar. and Nov. 2023, 21 state-run hospitals had been incrementally raising nursing bonuses or allowances, ranging from NT$800 to NT$3,000 per month.

However, five state-run hospitals not being adjusted at that time were those in remote areas, islands, or specialized psychiatric hospitals.

The substantial annual increase in expenditure will be covered by hospital funds, but the sizable amount will inevitably affect doctor bonuses, cautioned Yang.

As such, he called for hospitals to minimize the effects on doctors through management strategies.
