TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) emphasized the need for the people of Taiwan and China to "uphold the 1992 Consensus and oppose Taiwanese independence." This statement came during a regular press conference on Wednesday (Nov. 15).

Discussing the potential formation of a Blue-White Coalition in the upcoming Taiwanese presidential election, Zhu Fenglian remarked that the mainland is closely monitoring related developments. He asserted that "peace, development, and exchange cooperation" are the "mainstream public opinion in Taiwan."

In response to a question about the possible resumption of cross-Strait travel and related issues, Zhu declared that travel from mainland China to Taiwan would only be feasible if cross-Strait relations adhere to a path of peaceful development.

This statement aligns with China's consistent position regarding Taiwan, reinforcing its dedication to the 1992 Consensus and its firm stance against Taiwan's independence. The mainland's keen interest in Taiwan's political affairs, especially in light of the forthcoming election, is increasingly apparent.
