TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Dutch documentary "Invisible Nation" premiered at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, a prestigious documentary festival, on Thursday (Nov. 16). The film, showcasing Taiwan's journey to democracy and featuring the nation's first female president Tsai Ing-wen, resonated deeply with audiences.

Directed by American filmmaker Vanessa Hope, the documentary was a 7-year endeavor. It received substantial public support in Taiwan and from overseas organizations like Hello Taiwan. The project was also notably sponsored by Robert Tsao, founder of United Microelectronics Corporation and a staunch pro-independence advocate.

During a Q&A session, Hope expressed interest in exploring screening opportunities in China, although she stated she would not accompany the film there. She humorously remarked on the possibility of the film "vanishing" due to its candid exploration of sensitive issues across the Taiwan Strait.

Hello Taiwan Ambassador to the Netherlands, Wang Li-ching, lauded the film as essential viewing for international audiences. She appreciated its unique perspective, shaped by an American director's interpretation of Taiwan's culture and history.

Wang emphasized the film's significance, stating it offers an unbiased and truthful depiction of Taiwan's evolution into a democratic state, without unnecessary drama or incitement.
