YILAN (TVBS News) — In a push to meet and exceed a national housing goal, Premier Chen Chien-jen and Deputy Minister of the Interior Hua Ching-chun attended on Tuesday (Nov. 21) the groundbreaking ceremony of Yilan County's first social housing project, "Cangqian Anju."

Launched in 2016, the government's ambitious initiative has aimed to build 200,000 social housing units within eight years. Premier Chen stated that by the end of next year, the goal is on track to reach 107%. The project, with a total budget of NT$2.18 billion, is entirely funded by the central government.

Located on Cangqian Rd. in Luodong Township, the Cangqian Anju embodies the concept of "living well." It stands out for incorporating the historical Combined Service Forces Clothing Factory, reconstructed in 1961. Originally a facility producing military attire and bedding during the period of American aid in the 1960s, it is set to be preserved as a historical building.

Upon its expected completion in 2027, Cangqian Anju will offer 395 housing units, 289 car parking spaces, and 408 motorcycle spots. The National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center has announced that the housing will come in studio, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom configurations.

The Center also disclosed plans to repurpose the Combined Service Forces Clothing Factory, with the design tender scheduled for 2024 and the construction bid in 2025. Once revitalized, the site will merge with Cangqian Anju to form a cultural and tourism corridor, enhancing the charm of Yilan County with a blend of history and contemporary living.
