TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Tainan ciy Government official shared on Wednesday (Dec. 6) the city's achievements in implementing net-zero sustainability at a side event during the COP28 conference.

Hsu Jen-tse, director-general of Tainan City Government Environmental Protection Bureau, visiting on behalf of the delegation, made Tainan's presence known at a forum titled "Sustainable Cities and Net Zero Transformation", co-organized by Dubai and the Foundation of Taiwan Industry Service(FTIS) at Taiwan's Embassy in the Republic of Palau.

 

During the event, Hsu elaborated on the strategies Tainan has employed to combat extreme weather and promote sustainable development, with a sharp focus on net-zero sustainability, low-carbon adaptation, and a just transition.

The official highlighted Tainan's efforts in constructing a public transport system featuring electric buses and smart parking solutions, which contribute to the city's goal of reducing air pollution and achieving the Breathe Cities initiative objectives.

Furthermore, Hsu added Tainan, capitalizing on its regional advantages, has been pushing forward as a solar-powered city, with the capacity of solar panel installations reportedly reaching around 4GW this year.
 

Additionally, Hsu underscored that the city has taken proactive steps to harness renewable water sources. With these efforts, Hsu emphasized future water supply is projected to reach 83,000 cubic meters of produced water per day.
