TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) students are gearing up for an extraordinary winter break, spanning from Dec. 25 to Feb. 18, a record-breaking 56 days in the institution's history.

The extended break aligns with the academic calendars of multiple countries, enabling international students to spend Christmas at home. Similar to NTNU, National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) will commence their winter breaks on Dec. 25 due to the 16-week class schedule.

NTU's break lasts until Feb. 6, while Taiwan Tech's extended break ends on Feb. 16.

During this extended winter break, Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corporation offers university students discounted tickets, available for purchase from Jan. 4 to Jan. 10. The discounts range from 50% to 88%, with 28 train services providing tickets at half price.

Moreover, the upcoming 2024 presidential election in Taiwan, scheduled for Jan. 13, coincides with students' winter break, potentially boosting youth voter turnout.
