NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The father of a student involved in a serious assault case at a school in New Taipei City expressed a desire on Tuesday (Dec. 26) to visit the victim's family at the hospital. Still, he was declined due to the limited visiting hours of the intensive care unit and the victim's current unconscious state.

The incident took place a day earlier where a confrontation ended in bloodshed when a student stabbed his classmate five times over a dispute involving another student, whom he refers to as his "little sister," causing heavy blood loss.

The victim, a junior high school student, confronted the female student over an argument, leading to the "little sister" seeking out the other male student for "assistance." The accused student resorted to violence, using a switchblade, and stabbed at the victim's chest and neck.

The injured student was rushed to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital and was immediately put on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to save his life.

Successful recovery of his vital life signs came through after five hours of continuous rescuing, but he remains unconscious, and his condition is critical.

The youth court has detained the culprit in a reform facility, while his "little sister" – over whom the original dispute started – is now under the guardianship of an appointed adult. The incident has triggered concerns about school safety and youth violence.
