TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York Director James Lee emphasized the importance of democracy for Taiwan during a New Year's Day celebration on Monday (Jan. 1).

Lee, speaking at an event hosted by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), reaffirmed his support for Dr. Sun Yat-sen's "Three Principles of the People," which include democracy, nationalism, and people's livelihood.

He expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support from the overseas community in New York, who stands with Taiwan based on the values of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

The representative highlighted Taiwan's democracy, which has gained international recognition and plays a crucial role in maintaining global peace, prosperity, and stability.

With Taiwan's presidential election scheduled for the upcoming Saturday, Lee emphasized the power of the Taiwanese people to choose their national leader and shape the country's future.

Lee stressed that regardless of the election's outcome, it would serve as a testament to the success of Taiwan's democracy.
