TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Turkish comedian and long-time Taiwan resident, Ugur Rifat Karlova, known locally as Wu Feng, expressed gratitude and warmth for his adopted home in a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday (Jan. 1). The post celebrated 17 years of his life in Taiwan, referring to it as his family's home and a place deserving of cherishing.
Wu shared a moving incident that occurred on New Year's Eve in a teppanyaki restaurant, where he, his sister, and brother-in-law were dining. They struck up a friendly conversation with a Taiwanese couple seated nearby, exchanging New Year greetings.
When the couple prepared to leave, the husband surprised Wu by informing him that he had settled Wu's bill. "Wu Feng, you love this land so much! Thank you for everything you do," the stranger told him, recognizing Wu's affection for Taiwan.
"My sister and brother-in-law were deeply moved too," Wu wrote in his post. Addressing the unexpected warmth, Wu stated that he often hears thanks from Taiwanese people for his love of Taiwan but added, "I never feel that it deserves special thanks. After all, Taiwan is my home now."
In closing, Wu expressed his gratitude to the generous man and expressed hope to reciprocate the favor next time, thanking him for a touching New Year memory for his family.
