TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Finance's National Treasury Administration is urging parents to claim their remaining NT$6,000 subsidies before 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, designated for newborns.

According to the administration's stats, approximately 33,500 of the 35,000 qualifying newborns have received their benefits, a success rate of 95.6%. Roughly 1,500 eligible infants have yet to claim their money.

Parents must present their identification papers and the birth certificate of their newborn at the post office counter to receive the benefits. If another person is collecting on their behalf, they must also provide identification.

In scenarios where the birth mother doesn't qualify for the subsidy, birth registration must be completed. The eligibility of the father must then be confirmed via calling the 1988 hotline.

The administration reiterated that the government does not send text messages or emails to notify of money collection or enrollment. They won't ask for bank transfers via ATMs or internet banking over phone calls. The public is urged to be alert and prevent personal information theft or fall victim to fraud.

In case individuals encounter suspicious websites or messages, they are advised to immediately report it by dialing the 165 anti-fraud hotline.
