TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a bid to retain their respective posts in the Legislative Yuan, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) plans to nominate Legislative President You Si-kun and Vice President Tsai Chi-chang for the upcoming inauguration of the legislature on Thursday (Feb. 1), the DPP announced Monday (Jan. 29).

The election will mark the second time President-elect Lai Ching-te, also the DPP chairman, will visit the legislative yuan to consolidate the party's unity before the big day.

You stated that should he be nominated, he intends to meet with the vice presidential nominee to visit other political parties' legislative caucuses to seek out their opinion.

In response, the Kuomintang (KMT) nominated legislator-elect Han Kuo-yu and legislator Johnny Chiang, pitting them against the DPP's nominees.

Both Han and Chiang have already visited the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), conducting closed-door meetings and subsequent media interviews together – a step ahead of the DPP candidates.

Reacting to the news of upcoming courtesy visits from You and Tsai, Christina Yang, deputy director and spokeswoman of the TPP Caucus, said they respect the candidates' wishes. She added they were open to future meetings with the DPP nominees.
