TAIPEI (TVBS News) — While temperatures are forecast to surge past 30 degrees Celsius this week, meteorology experts warn of a likely drop during the Lunar New Year period due to the incoming northeastern monsoon, advising residents to remain wary of weather changes.

The WeatherRisk agency announced on Tuesday (Jan. 30) on Facebook that impending southeasterly winds are gradually increasing temperatures; generally maintaining above 25 degrees Celsius. The central and southern interior regions might potentially exceed 30 degrees.

However, a northeastern monsoon is expected to move south by this Friday (Feb. 2). This will temporarily increase cloud cover and precipitation in the northern and eastern regions, causing a slight decrease with temperatures dipping into the low 20s.

Although temperatures will again rise above 25 degrees, due to the southward movement of a cold high-pressure system by mid-next week, the northeastern monsoon weather pattern could lead to rain in windward areas.

This is projected to result in colder weather over the Lunar New Year. Residents are advised not to put away their heavy coats just yet as they prepare to ring in the new year.
