TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27) that the U.S. government's goal is to produce 20% of the world's cutting-edge semiconductors by 2030.
Raimondo emphasized that advanced semiconductor companies, including Intel, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and Samsung, are seeking more than US＄70 billion in subsidies under the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act.
She specifically mentioned TSMC, noting its pioneering work in Arizona and expressing gratitude for their contributions, assuring their success.
Raimondo also said she hopes the government's subsidy funding can support more projects, ensuring that by 2030, the advanced semiconductors produced by the United States comprise 20% of the global total.
