TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Huang Yung-sung, the founder of the Echo of Things Chinese magazine, passed away in the early hours of Monday (March. 4) at 4:30 a.m., at the age of 80.

Huang's son informed author Yang Du through a text message that his father had been in critical care for several days due to liver coma.

The family had considered moving him to a palliative care unit, but feared he could not withstand the move and so he remained in the ICU where he passed away today.

Yang regarded Huang as a bearer in fields such as folk crafts, performing arts, folk culture, temple architecture, monument preservation, and historical truths. Huang devoted his life to cultural contributions.

Huang was acknowledged alongside other cultural contributors when he received the ninth Presidential Culture Awards' "Arts and Culture Award" in 2017.

In his reply to the text message, Yang expressed his sorrow over the loss of Huang and honored him as a guardian of the world, while hoping Huang would find protection in heaven.
