TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Starting tomorrow, Thursday (March 7), temperatures in northern Taiwan will begin to drop and could reach as low as 14 degrees Celsius, according to weather forecaster Lee Meng-hsuan of the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The change is due to the influence of a frontal system and a cold air mass from the north.

The entire island will experience cloudy weather with accompanying rainfall on both Thursday and Friday. The rain, more pronounced in the north, is expected to subside by Sunday.

"Due to the fronts and the cold air mass, the north and northeast will start to see rainfall on Thursday, potentially including showers and localized thunderstorms. The central and eastern regions could also experience brief showers," Lee explained.

The drop in temperature will be noticeable earlier in the north, with daytime temperatures dropping to between 16-19 degrees and further decreasing to around 14 degrees at night.

According to the CWA, rainfall will continue until Sunday, with the lowest temperatures for this week predicted on Friday and Saturday. From Sunday onward, temperatures will slightly rebound during the daytime as the strong cold air mass weakens. However, it will still be cold in the morning and at night. Rainfall is still possible in the north and east, and higher elevations are in the central and southern areas.

The CWA advised that under suitable temperature and humidity conditions on Friday night, areas above 3,500 meters may see localized icing or snowfall.
