TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Acclaimed Japanese manga creator Akira Toriyama, best known for crafting "Dragon Ball," died at 68 on March 1 due to an acute cerebral hemorrhage, his agency revealed on Friday (March 8).

As his cause of death was confirmed a week later, his family had already conducted his funeral, with details concerning a memorial service to be announced later, according to the talent agency representing him.

Toriyama, born in 1955, left an immeasurable mark on the manga and anime scene.

He is most renowned for "Dragon Ball" and "Dr. Slump," his wildly popular titles that spawned animated adaptations. Notably, "Dragon Ball" was translated into multiple languages and has amassed a global circulation of 200 million copies.

Paying condolences to the loss of Toriyama, the agency highlighted unfinished projects the artist left behind, signifying the significant void his departure creates in the manga world.
