TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) reported that temperatures across Taiwan will reach 35 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (June 19), urging citizens to stay hydrated.

Despite the front gradually moving northward, substantial moisture remains near Taiwan, with sporadic thunderstorms in the afternoon expected in areas north of central Taiwan, northeastern regions, eastern districts, and mountainous zones.

In particular, the Greater Taipei area, northeastern areas, and regions north of central Taiwan may experience severe rainfall, according to the weather agency.

Weather expert Wu Der-rong warns of sunny and scorching weather from tomorrow through next Tuesday (June 20-25) due to the lingering front retreating to the East China Sea. He advises precautions against sunburn and heatstroke.

Wu further explains that the Pacific high-pressure system is still insufficient to completely suppress afternoon convection. Therefore, cloud volume will increase in the afternoon, with chances of local showers or thunderstorms in northern Taiwan and other regions near mountainous areas.

Also, Matsu (馬祖) and Kinmen (金門) may experience low clouds or localized fog, affecting visibility, especially during night and early morning. Travelers are advised to monitor flight information.

The latest European model simulation shows a 50% chance of a tropical disturbance developing in the South China Sea at 8 p.m. next Monday (June 24), with a 20% chance of it becoming a typhoon. However, its anticipated path is northwest towards Hainan Island and Guangdong, posing no threat to Taiwan regardless of its development.
