KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台灣電力公司) confirmed on Thursday (June 27) that a faulty transformer caused a sudden power outage in the Zuoying District of Kaohsiung City.

The unexpected blackout in the evening affected 156 households along Wenfu Road in the Zuoying District, and Taipower immediately dispatched workers to replace the faulty transformer. However, due to the late-night operation and the need to hoist a transformer weighing over 700 kilograms, power restoration had to wait until safety tests were completed.

On the same day, another power outage occurred in the Qianjin District of Kaohsiung, affecting 720 households. Unlike the situation in Zuoying, the power was restored within an hour. Taipower stated that the blackout in Qianjin was due to a malfunction in the underground cable joint, and power was fully restored by 9:01 p.m.

The dual outages underscore the importance of maintaining and checking the power infrastructure to prevent sudden disruptions, which can greatly inconvenience residents.

Taipower's swift response in both situations is commendable, but these incidents serve as a reminder of the need for ongoing vigilance in managing the city's power supply.
