TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) clinched Taiwan's first-ever boxing gold medal in the women's 57kg category at the Olympics on early Sunday (Aug. 11). Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強), expressed gratitude to J.K. Rowling for the global attention brought to Lin's victory.

Lin dominated Poland's Julia Szeremeta in a 5-0 sweep across three rounds, securing Taiwan's second gold at this year's Games.

Tseng revealed that Lin only learned the full details of the controversy surrounding Rowling's comments about her gender on Aug. 9. Despite the uproar, Lin remained unfazed and focused on her performance. Tseng said that Lin's social media has been closed for a while, and all the information is shared with her through him.

Tseng emphasized their appreciation for Rowling, stating, "Thank you, J.K. Rowling, for your baseless remarks, which made the world see Taiwan's pride and amplified the significance of this gold medal."

Post-match, Lin joyfully celebrated by carrying Tseng on her back, continuing a tradition that began in 2013 when she won gold at the Youth World Boxing Championships. Tseng shared that this ritual has been a staple in their celebrations for every subsequent victory.

After the match, Tseng and Lin punched the ring floor in unison, symbolizing their resolve. Tseng recounted telling Lin, "Whatever happens in the ring stays in the ring; once you're out, it's over."

The spotlight on Lin's achievement has not only highlighted her prowess but also brought international recognition to Taiwan. The nation eagerly anticipates further success from its athletes in the ongoing Olympics.
