TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) from Chinese Taipei (中華代表團) clinched a gold medal in the final boxing match of the Olympics on Sunday (Aug. 11), bringing the delegation's total to two golds and five bronzes. This achievement elevated the team's rank from 59th to 33rd.

Team Taiwan matched its best record of two gold medals in a single Olympics for the third time, previously accomplished at the 2004 Athens Olympics (雅典奧運) and the Tokyo Olympics (東京奧運) three years ago. Since the 2004 Athens Olympics, the nation has secured gold medals in six consecutive Games. Lin's victory marks the first boxing gold and the ninth overall for the delegation.

The nine gold medals include four in weightlifting, two by Hsu Shu-ching (許淑淨), and one each by Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) and Chen Wei-ling (陳葦綾). Taekwondo athletes Chen Shih-hsin (陳詩欣) and Chu Mu-yen (朱木炎) each won a gold, while badminton men's doubles players Lee Yang (李洋) and Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) secured two more. Lin's gold in boxing rounds out the total.

The closing ceremony for the Olympics will take place tomorrow. Taiwan's seven medals this year are the second-best in its history, only surpassed by the 12 medals won at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

China leads the medal tally with 39 golds, 27 silvers, and 24 bronzes. The United States follows with 38 golds, 42 silvers, and 42 bronzes. Australia, Japan, and host nation France round out the top five.
