TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA, 民航局) announced on Monday (Aug. 19) that thunderstorms have caused Songshan Airport (松山機場) to suspend ground operations from 3:50 p.m., potentially delaying several flights. Airports with flights to and from Songshan Airport will also experience delays.
The CAA has instructed the relevant aviation stations to promptly notify passengers through bulletin boards, scrolling text, and public announcements within the terminals. Additionally, the latest flight information is available on the official website for public access.
Earlier that day, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a heavy rain warning affecting 16 counties and cities due to the influence of southwesterly winds. This includes Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and New Taipei City, where an immediate thunderstorm alert has been issued.
Other areas affected by the heavy rain warning include the north coast of Keelung, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Hengchun Peninsula, Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County, Orchid Island, and Green Island.
The CAA urges travelers to utilize the official website for real-time updates and to remain vigilant for further announcements. The weather conditions serve as a reminder of the importance of staying informed during travel disruptions.
