NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced on Wednesday (Sept. 4) that repairs on the Provincial Highway No. 1 from New Taipei City's Sanchong District will cost at least NT$23 million. The city plans to seek compensation from the logistics company involved.

Officials reopened the entire section of the highway at 6 a.m. on Wednesday after a truck carrying steel beams overturned on Aug. 20, causing significant damage. The Public Works Department expedited repairs, completing the project in two weeks instead of the initially estimated two months.

Hou expressed gratitude to the police, public works, and transportation departments for their efforts. He expressed his gratitude toward the hard work of the police, public works, and transportation departments as they restored dual-lane traffic ahead of schedule.

Hou visited the city's traffic control center in the morning to monitor peak-hour traffic conditions, noting minor congestion on the Zhongxiao Bridge but overall smooth traffic flow.

New Taipei City Department of Transportation Director Chung Ming-shih (鍾鳴時) stated that the highway will continue to ban vehicles over 20 tons. He added that the police will maintain inspections at key intersections to enforce this restriction.

Chung further explained that the second phase of repairs on the surface road beneath the bridge, Zhongan Street (重安街), remains ongoing. The city expects to complete the dismantling of support structures and resurfacing of Zhongan Street by Sept. 15, when it will reopen to traffic.
