TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) led a typhoon preparedness meeting before departing for his U.S. trip on Wednesday (Sept. 4). He emphasized the city's readiness to address any emergencies promptly.

Mayor Chiang said the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported minimal impact from Tropical Storm Yagi (颱風摩羯) on Taiwan. However, he assured that the city would closely monitor potential tropical depressions and peripheral circulation.

Chiang plans to return to Taiwan on Sept. 14 and will stay in close contact with Taipei's Department of Disaster Response Center (台北市災害應變中心) and various departments during his visit. When asked about the possibility of returning if the typhoon poses a threat, he stated, "We will make immediate responses."

During the meeting, Chiang directed the Public Works Department (工程局) and other relevant authorities to analyze disaster-prone areas and implement preventive measures for frequently collapsing tree species. He also instructed continuous improvement of flood-prone areas and ongoing silt removal by the Department of Environmental Protection (環保局).

In case of power outages, the Taipei mayor emphasized the need for the Department of Economic Development (產業局) to maintain communication with Taiwan Power Company (台電) to expedite power restoration.

With many large events planned by various departments, including the Department of Information and Tourism (觀光局), through the end of the year, Chiang stressed the importance of monitoring typhoon developments and assessing whether to cancel or postpone events to ensure public safety.
