TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued heavy rain or torrential rain warnings for 18 counties and cities across Taiwan on Monday (Sept. 23). Officials expect the warnings to persist into the evening due to the influence of a weather front.

New Taipei City's mountainous areas, regions north of Taichung, Nantou, eastern areas, southern mountain regions, and Kinmen and Matsu face a high probability of experiencing heavy or torrential rain, the CWA noted.

The CWA further cautioned residents to be vigilant against lightning strikes and strong gusts. The administration also advised citizens in low-lying areas to prepare for potential flooding, while those in mountainous regions should remain alert for landslides, falling rocks, mudslides, and rising creek waters due to consecutive days of rainfall.

Affected areas include New Taipei City's mountainous regions, Keelung's north coast, Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Yunlin County's mountainous areas, Chiayi County's mountainous areas, Tainan City's mountainous areas, Kaohsiung City's mountainous areas, Pingtung County's mountainous areas, Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County, Kinmen, and Matsu.

From last Saturday until early Monday, Taipei City's Anbu (鞍部) weather station recorded the highest accumulated rainfall at 490 millimeters. New Taipei City's Daping (大坪) station followed with 454.5 millimeters, while Koushe (口社) in Pingtung County logged 446.5 millimeters.
