TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) highlighted Taiwan's rich natural resources and potential for unique sports activities during a meeting on Monday (Sept. 23).

While leading the third advisory group meeting of the new "Ministry of Sports and Physical Education" (體育暨運動發展部), Cheng emphasized the development of local sports, such as island-wide cycling and mountain sports.

Cheng, alongside Sports Administration Director-General Cheng Shih-chung (鄭世忠), discussed the establishment of the new ministry. She stated that the government should build a sports diplomacy network to encourage talent to participate in international organizations.

Cheng suggested planning for overseas sports units or personnel and creating a talent pool to support athletes, referees, and other key figures in securing significant roles in international bodies.

Furthermore, Cheng urged Taiwan to seek opportunities to host international competitions actively. She called on the central government to propose plans that include financial support and the development of a sports diplomacy network.

Cheng expressed her expectations for the new ministry, believing that related administrative bodies should help establish an information-sharing platform to enhance the Taiwanese sports community's understanding of international information and professional knowledge.
