NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced Tuesday (Sept. 24) that the city is making every effort to control a dengue fever outbreak.

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 衛生福利部疾病管制署) reported three new local cases on Monday, marking the first cluster in northern Taiwan this year.

Hou said the city launched disinfection activities immediately after discovering the outbreak a few days ago. He noted that the epidemic is concentrated in Xindian (新店) and Zhonghe (中和), prompting the closure of Tien Shan Park (天山公園) and San Chieh Temple (三介廟), which are now high-risk areas.

The city has also set up screening stations and urges residents to prevent mosquito breeding.

The three cases, residents of Xindian and Zhonghe, include a man in his 20s, a woman in her 50s, and a woman in her 70s. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, pain behind the eyes, diarrhea, and nausea.

Health authorities have identified 55 close contacts who currently show no symptoms.
